Capiz – The shell of the Placuna Placenta mollusc has shaped the material language of traditional Filipino architecture and decorative arts for centuries.
Explore new interpretations of this material through a series of hanging installations and object designs at Inarc Architects Studio. The exhibition celebrates the uniqueness of Capiz and draws on its rich history and future predicament as a natural resource.
The flat, iridescent, and translucent properties of the shell have predominantly been used as alternatives to glass, from windows to lanterns and chandeliers. The Placuna Placenta mollusc abundantly grows within the muddy and brackish waters of the archipelago. Readily harvested, the use of Capiz forms an important cultural asset for the Filipino people.
