Family Event - Mt Stromlo Observatory
We have organised a private tour for our families at the observatory!
A typical evening visit starts with a welcome by professional astronomers. The group then watches a 3D astronomy movie. The movie is both fun and educational and lasts about 15 minutes. The group then moves outside for the main part of the evening, a stargazing session using Stromlo's outreach telescopes. To complete the evening there will be a question and answer session hosted by our astronomers. In the event of cloudy weather, the star gazing session is replaced with a tour of the site.
All ages are welcome. Children 6 and under require a parent to attend with them.
Numbers are limited. We have been advised we can have with a maximum of 40 children - with a maximum of 50 persons in total.
Bookings close 24 May as we need to confirm numbers with the Observatory.
Cost: $20 per person
ENQUIRIES to Lyndal: 0408 436 182 or firstname.lastname@example.org
ARRIVING AT MT STROMLO
It takes about 25 - 30 mins to get to Mt Stromlo from the city or 15mins from Weston Creek. Please make sure your drivers are aware of Mt Stromlo's large population of kangaroos as they are frequently encountered on the road. Your group will be met at the Visitors' Centre.
THINGS TO BRING
Visitors must wear warm clothes as Mt Stromlo is situated above the city and is colder/windier than down in town. We strongly recommend bringing "snow gear" (i.e., gloves, scarves, beanies and warm jackets) and students with insufficient clothing will not be allowed to participate in the outdoors part of the program. Please expect night temperatures in summer to be below 10 degrees and night temperatures in winter to be well below freezing (regularly reaches minus 5 to minus 10 degrees at Mt Stromlo). Mt Stromlo is a dark site and the visitors should bring their own torches.
