CU Roller Disco
Since 2017 the Collingwood underground has been paying homage to roller skate culture & its relationship with underground music - bringing an all-inclusive, all ages, good vibes party to disused & decommissioned spaces around Melbourne.
Our collective backgrounds are across community engagement through creative spaces & underground music and our aim is to seed & grow genuine diversity, creativity and add to the richness of what Melbourne IS.
The Collingwood Underground Roller Disco was founded in 2017 to battle the stigma of public housing, using its decommissioned car park on the Collingwood Housing Estate to host 4 roller disco parties each year with the aim of encouraging the broader community to visit a place they would usually avoid whilst providing employment opportunities for residents on the estate.
Now an established brand on the underground Melbourne circuit you will find the cream of established and underground music artists performing alongside advanced & beginner level skaters plus a dance floor & plenty of other activities for the non-skater, whilst visual art is also an integral component for the experience featuring ongoing collaborations with a host of Melbourne’s finest street artists. There is always a collection of excellent skates for hire from our friends at Impala plus support from City of Yarra, BANH (Belgium Avenue & Collingwood Neighbourhood Houses), Leaps & Bounds, Stomping Ground & more over the years.
A recent battle between Social Housing & The State Government (who is planning to build on the Collingwood Housing Estate, in the process taking away green space for the residents) has also impacted our ability to use the underground car park and after a long fight we have been offered an opportunity to temporarily transform a disused car showroom in Collingwood for a series of events from the end of 2022.
