Biodanza con Julia
- Who is Julia? Julia is a Latina born and raised in Colombia, where she grew up surrounded by the sounds of traditional folkloric music and diverse dancing styles, in a culture that embraces dancing and music, as a way of expression and social connection. Julia has danced from the age of three, learning different dances like Ballet, Salsa, Belly Dancing and Cumbia (Colombian traditional rhythm). She’s embraced music through singing and playing traditional percussion Cumbia instruments like Tambora and Llamador drum.
- What does Julia do? Julia is a Biodanza facilitator under supervision. Biodanza is a progressive dance and movement system for human development, that supports the innate potential for health and wellbeing in people. The name Biodanza means “dance of life”, originating from "bios" which means "life" and "danza" in French which means "integrated movement full of meaning". Biodanza awakens our vital energy for healthy, pleasurable living through a fusion of music, movement, dance and encounters with other people.
- Why does Julia facilitate Biodanza? Julia attended her first Biodanza session in 2016. During the session she experienced a sense of ease, flow and the space to connect with her own body differently. After that first session she felt joyful, energised and alive. When she showed up to the session, she didn’t intend to explore Biodanza as a long term practice, however she was left feeling curious and inspired. Since then, Biodanza has become part of her life as a practice for development and growth in connection and community, being one of the spaces that has deeply supported her through life’s profound changes as a woman and a Latina migrant.
- What does Julia bring as a Biodanza facilitator? In 2019 Julia joined the Biodanza School of Australia to become a facilitator and completed her formal training in 2022. Julia is very passionate about creating safe spaces to enable connection, exploration, development and growth in the community. From her studies in Psychology, her work in human relations and her deep love for music and dance, Julia sees the Biodanza system as a way to support development and transformation through connection, to oneself, others and our environment. The interaction in a community of equals, via the body, the senses, feelings, movement and music, awakens the potential of what is healthy and functional in each person, beyond words.
