About this event

Join Big Heart Adventures as we tackle the Yurrebilla Trail over the June long weekend. Come with us and do all three stages over the weekend, or opt to do one or two days only.

Each stage is $60pp (plus Eventbrite fees) which includes bus transport and morning tea.

Dates:

Saturday 8th June - Stage 1

Sunday 9th June - Stage 2

Monday 10th June - Stage 3

The Yurrebilla trail is located just 12km from Adelaide city and is 56km in total, taking in some of the most scenic trails through the Adelaide Hills.

We respectfully acknowledge that our Yurrebilla adventure is on Kaurna Land traditionally owned by the Kaurna People.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Stage 3 of the Yurrebilla Trail is approximately 20-22km from Norton Summit to Athelstone and is rated Moderate to Hard. A good level of physical fitness is required. Allow up to 7 hours to complete the walk.

This stage takes us through Morialta Conservation Park and the mighty Black Hill. The terrain is undulated with a number of long steep climbs and descents to really challenge you. Some sections may be slippery, so we highly recommend bringing hiking poles if you have them.

BUS MEET SPOT

Stage 3 includes transport from Athelstone to Norton Summit.

Meet at 7.45am for an 8.00am bus departure. The bus departs from the Ambers Gully Car Park, Black Hill Conservation Park, which is located on Gorge Road. You will receive instructions and a map on how to get to this location 24-48 hours before the event. There are toilets located in the park across the road from the Amber Gully car park and toilets are also located at Norton Summit.

WHO IS THIS EVENT SUITABLE FOR?

This event is for both men and women and is suitable for anyone with a good level of fitness behind them. It is ideal for people who may not be confident with being on trails without a leader or the company of others.

Note that our walks are all about fun, fitness and friendship – they are not a personal training session. If we cannot walk and talk at the same time, we are walking too fast! And we never leave anyone behind.

The minimum age requirement for this walk is 15 years old and must come with a supervising adult - please check with us if unsure.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Due to the variability of the weather, please ensure you have adequate sun protection (hat, sunnies, sunscreen) and wet weather gear – we cannot refund you if you do not have the gear required. If you arrive ill-prepared our leaders can ask you not to walk for safety reasons.

We will check the forecast and remind you all what to expect prior to the walk, but weather can be unpredictable, so it is important to be prepared. We recommend wearing warm layerable clothing as the temperature can change quickly, and the extra layers can also keep you warm during breaks.

Please also bring worn in comfortable walking shoes/hiking boots, day pack (35 litre), filled water bottles/bladder (2+ litres), personal medications/blister kit, walking poles (highly recommended), snacks (fruit, muesli bars, trail mix, lollies), and a light lunch to enjoy enroute.

You may also want to bring a head torch for Echo Tunnel.

WHAT WE PROVIDE

We will provide morning tea approximately half way through this walk with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit and home baked goods on offer. Please remember to advise us of any allergies before the walk so we can cater as best we can.

We offer full cream milk or skim lactose free milk and gluten free and vegan snack options/light lunch options.

LEADERS

Our leaders carry group first aid kits, emergency communication devices and are qualified and experienced bushwalking leaders.

CANCELLATIONS

Refunds are not available if cancelling 7 days or less prior to the walk.

If the weather forecast is for extreme weather or a fire ban is issue for the Adelaide Hills, this walk will be cancelled the day before and participants will be notified. A rare same day cancellation may also occur if weather warnings or fire warnings are issued same day - we will always phone participants to cancel should this occur on the day of the event.

Note: if this walk is cancelled by Big Heart Adventures, we will endeavour to do a catch up walk on Sunday 15th September 2024. We will email participants if this occurs and your payment can either be transferred to the new date, or we can offer you a full refund.

Note that we require a minimum of 6 walkers for this walk to go ahead. If we do not meet these numbers, a refund will be provided.

If you have any questions, you can call Lisa Murphy on 0418 802 361 or phone the office on 0870065620.
