Young Dobell exhibition opening

Young aspiring artists from the wider Hunter region, aged 5 to 18, go on display in the Young Dobell competition, which is part of the Lake Macquarie Dobell Festival. The competition is named after Sir William Dobell, a renowned artist who lived in Lake Macquarie and was known for his portraits and landscape artworks, as well as his beloved pet dogs which often appeared in his sketches.

The Young Dobell competition showcases artworks that include a portrait of a person or pet that holds a special significance in the young artist's life, or a landscape artwork of a place that is important to them. There are three theme categories: Portrait, Pet, and Landscape, and four age groups: 5-8 year olds, 9-12 year olds, 13-15 year olds, and 16-18 year olds.

The exhibition features over 80 finalists, and the opening event will be held at 2 pm, where the winners will be announced at 3 pm. The event will also feature free art-making activities and light refreshments. The exhibition will capture the creativty of our young people from Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port Stephens, Maitland, and the broader Hunter Valley areas. art-making activities and light refreshments. Enteries open until 20 MAY
