About this event

This children's school holiday workshop includes an entertaining presentation covering all the 'ins and outs' of worms, before the kids get their hands into masses of wriggling worms and create their own mini worm farm to take home!

Facilitated by Vermiculture expert Kevin Smith (The Worm Shed) who has been working with worms and educating children for three decades!

Start time

Event activities will start on time, but if you are running late, you may still join. 

Requirements 

  • Suitable for children 5-12 years old
  • Bring an empty clear plastic water bottle (1-2litres) with the neck cut off so that you can get your hand in there (to make their mini worm farm with)
  • Each child must be supervised by an adult/parent for the workshop duration
  • Please book participating children only

Accessibility 

Disabled parking is available at front of Centre, rooms are located on multiple levels via a ramp and toilets are available within the venue. For specific access requirements please feel free to call or email the centre at (08)9364 0191 or piney.lakes@melville.wa.gov.au 

Directions to centre 

Please consider using public transportation. A bus stop, just a 2-minute walk away, is conveniently located near the Centre and services multiple routes. 

The Centre is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in the Piney Lakes reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn  just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.

Recycling hub 

Bring the following items for recycling at Piney Lakes when you attend a workshop: household batteries, printer cartridges, light globes, mobile phones and chargers, writing instruments, plastic bread tags, beauty packaging, oral care products, plastic bottle lids and medication blister packets. 

Type of event

Children should be capable of following instructions of program facilitator and must be able to  sit calmly for the duration of the presentation. Parents should be available to support children if required. Quiet spaces will be available for this event.
