Immerse yourself in the ancient art of weaving with a Traditional Weaving Workshop, proudly hosted by Injalak Art Centre.


Open to all, this immersive four-hour experience invites you to explore the intricate art of weaving alongside Kunwinjku artisans from West Arnhem Land. Under the guidance of local Daluk (Women), you'll learn a variety of ancient weaving techniques and craft your own piece of woven jewellery.


As you weave with local pandanus fibres, harvested and dyed by the Daluk, you'll delve into the rich cultural heritage and deep connection to Country that underpins this ancient practice.

Do I need any prior weaving experience to participate?

No prior weaving experience is required to participate in the workshop. Our skilled artists will guide you through each step of the process, ensuring an enjoyable learning experience for all.

Will materials be provided for the workshop?

All weaving materials will be provided for the workshop, including locally harvested pandanus fibres.

Is there an age limit for participants?

The workshop is open to participants of all ages. However, younger participants may require adult supervision.

Are there any specific items I need to bring for the workshop?

While materials for the workshop will be provided, we recommend bringing water and snacks to keep you energised throughout the session. Alternatively, cold drinks and snacks can be purchased from the Ubirr Border Store.

Is transportation provided to and from the workshop location?

Transportation to the workshop location is not provided. The workshop takes place at Ubirr Border Store, approximately a 30 minute drive north east of Jabiru.

Since 1989, our non-profit association has been owned by the local Aboriginal community. Our centre is located in Gunbalanya, a small Aboriginal community situated in West Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory of Australia.
