In a climate of knowledge exchange and community engagement, communicating to an audience outside the Academy is becoming increasingly important for research professionals.
Visualise Your Thesis (VYT) is an international competition that challenges graduate researchers to present their research in a 60-second video. In just one minute, using whatever (copyright compliant) art, photography, speech, music and animation they wish, competitors will explain to a general audience what their research project is, how it works, and the impact it will have upon the world.
The competition provides an opportunity for universities across the globe to showcase their graduate research and for the competitors to build essential information and digital literacy skills, communicating complex research to a general audience.
In this training session, led by Hugh Milligan (UON Research Training Coordinator) and Anthony O'Brien (UON Copyright Advisor), we will look at the rules, eligibility and judging criteria of the competition, share free and open-licence tools and databases for art, music and other media, and provide storytelling tips and techniques that will highlight the impact of your work and better engage your audience.
This is a hybrid session: it will run both in person, in Room SR-G04 (Social Sciences Building) at Callaghan Campus, and online via Zoom. When registering, please select whether you are attending in person or via Zoom. In-person spaces are limited.
