About this event
- 2 hours 30 minutes
"The Melaleuca Jazz Orchestra presented a well-thought-through selection of numbers, and for a couple of hours, the audience was transported back to the halcyon days of the big band era. It’s clear this music is loved by many people, so I do hope we’ll be seeing more of this ensemble of outstanding musicians." - 5 stars - Sydney Arts Guide.
Get ready for a night of classic hits, excellent musicianship, and the sounds of a big band like never before!
The Melaleuca Jazz Orchestra is very excited to present 'Sinatra and Basie', a night of jazz masterpieces from 2 of the very best, Frank Sinatra and Count Basie.
Frank Sinatra and Count Basie are arguably 2 of the most influential figures in jazz and big band music. Sinatra dominated the global music stage for much of the mid-20th century and was regarded as one of the world's best-selling recording artists.
Basie, one of the greatest musicians in history, led the Count Basie Orchestra for 50 years, plus being the first African-American to win a Grammy (which he won many times after) and receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Together, Sinatra and Basie recorded 'Sinatra-Basie', 'It Might as Well Be Swing', and 'Sinatra at the Sands', essential recordings of not only jazz and big band, but a peerless example of what good music is.
The Melaleuca Jazz Orchestra will be joined by Liam Burrows, an award-winning jazz vocalist from Sydney Australia. Liam has numerous accolades in his esteemed career, which include being a finalist in Australia's Got Talent, winning the 'Best Jazz Artist' award at the Music Oz awards, and winning a vocal scholarship for Generations in Jazz.
Come join us for an incredible night of classics including 'New York New York', 'Night and Day', 'My Way', and essential big band instrumentals like 'April in Paris', 'After Supper' and 'Shiny Stockings'.
