Thank you for your interest in the research forum, Reducing barriers to wellbeing and learning for Autistic students through supportive and inclusive physical environments.

The Queensland Department of Education funds research into priority education issues through the Education Horizon research grants scheme.

Professor Dawn Adams was awarded an Education Horizon Grant in 2022 to examine two research questions:

1. What aspects of the physical school environment does national and international research identify as barriers or enablers to the wellbeing and/or learning of Autistic students?

2. How can Queensland schools adapt physical spaces to reduce or remove barriers and incorporate enablers to deliver an inclusive and supportive learning environment?

The materials developed in this project are evidence-based, snappy, visual resources to inform teachers, parents and policymakers about how physical school environments can promote learning and wellbeing in Autistic students.

This research forum aims to disseminate the valuable deliverables of this project more widely and aligns with Queensland’s aims to maintain its position as a leader on the global stage in this space.

The research forum will commence with an Acknowledgement of Country at 3.30pm sharp and will be followed by networking until 5pm.
