Join illustrator and artist Ashley Ronning on a walk down Sydney Road to admire and sketch the incredible signage and typography of this historic Coburg shopping strip. We'll talk about how design and typography principles are utilised (or ignored) in the unique context of Coburg, whilst gathering information and inspiration in our sketchbooks. This walk is for design nerds, fans of eras past, and nostalgic time travellers.

Whether you're a seasoned designer or simply appreciate the aesthetic charm of vintage signage, this event promises a delightful journey through Coburg's visual heritage.

Artist bio:

Ashley Ronning is an illustrator, designer and artist based in Schoolhouse Studios, Coburg. Her creative endeavours began when she was five and she cut her own hair to complete a picture of a pony. She can usually be found in her studio drawing, risograph printing or working on her next zine. When her pens are down she's playing pinball, going to gigs or having a tinnie in the sunshine.

Not at all! This walk welcomes participants of all skill levels. Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting out, you'll have the opportunity to sketch and appreciate Coburg's visual heritage.

What should I bring to the walk?

A sketchbook and pencil will be provided, but feel free to bring along your sketchbook or notebook for taking notes and sketching if you wish. Comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are also recommended.
