SPEAKERS:
Dr Russell Young, MB, ChB, FACEM, FACRRM, MSc, SEM
Russell graduated from Manchester University UK in 1997 and moved to Australia in 2002. He qualified as both a General Practitioner and Emergency Medicine Specialist in 2012, and completed a Master’s Degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2015. Russell is very interested in acute injury work, non-operative orthopaedics, sports team medical cover and exercise promotion. He established the fracture clinic in Albany Health Campus outpatients in 2014 and ran a trial through Pioneer Health comparing two types of exercise advice. He became Director of the Albany Hospital Emergency Department in 2016 and is currently the practice principal of South Coast Sports Medicine. When not at work, Russell is playing off single figures at Albany Golf Course and keeping fit with his family.
Dr Elise Brigden, FACEM
Elise is an emergency consultant at Albany Health Campus. She initially came to Albany as an ED registrar for six months of training, stayed for a year, and then moved back as soon as she could after finishing off FACEM training in Perth in 2022. She enjoys scuba diving and is taking on the challenge of being a soccer goalkeeper for the first time this year. By the end of the season she hopes to have gained absolutely no more experience in concussion than she already has.
Dr Julian Humphrey, FACEM
Julian is a very experienced consultant in emergency medicine and worked in the UK for many years before moving to WA for the ‘Autumn’ of his career in 2021. Prior to moving to Albany in 2022, he completed the ACEM Specialist International Medical Graduate Pathway accreditation in emergency medicine and worked as a FACEM at Joondalup Hospital and Rockingham General Hospital. Julian is an Honorary Lecturer at Sheffield University Medical School and an examiner for the UK Royal College of Emergency Medicine. He is also a qualified instructor in the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Course and the Advanced Life Support (ALS) Course, and has a special interest in teaching and training medical students and junior doctors.
