Join SASSLA and the APF for our National Conference in Adelaide!

This year, SASSLA is collaborating with the Australian Principals Federation (Victoria and WA Branches) to host a national conference in Adelaide which focuses on contemporary issues for school and preschool leaders.

Structure of the Day

9.45am: Registration for a 10.00am start

10.00am: Opening address by Hon Blair Boyer, Minister for Education

10.30am: Keynote Speaker (including a break for morning tea):

Our keynote speaker is Prof Jane Wilkinson from Monash University, supported by the research team of Dr Fiona Longmuir and Dr Philippa Chandler. Their research project “Invisible Labour: Principals’ Emotional Labour in Volatile Times” will generate new knowledge and policy frameworks for the development of leaders’ emotional skills and building bridges to diverse communities. This work is directly linked to delivering reduced principal turnover, improved teacher retention, improved student outcomes and greater social cohesion.

1.00pm: Lunch

1.45pm: Leading Teams

Join our Leading Teams facilitators Daniel Healy and David Arnfield who will take you through an interactive session to explore and discuss the extraordinary pressures placed on school leaders and how the wellbeing of leaders is being adversely impacted. The more school leaders are 'drawn away' from what it was that attracted them to the vocation of education in the first place; children, community, learning and relationships, the more likely leaders are to experience wellbeing challenges. This session will draw upon the Leading Teams model of High Performance and will assist leaders to see the very real connection between the culture and behaviours that permeate their schools and how a strong, empowering and people focussed culture can help enhance their own wellbeing and that of the entire community.

3.00pm: Panel Discussion

National President of the Australian Principals Federation, Chris Chant, Victorian Branch President, Tina King, Western Australian Branch President, Bevan Ripp, and SASSLA’s Chief Executive, Phil O’Loughlin, will hold a panel discussion on building the national profile of the school and preschool leader.

4.00pm to 5.00pm: Networking drinks and canapes at the Wine Centre!
