About this event

  • 1 day 18 hours

This weekend is for women who wish to explore and grow their personal and public writing self, in a way that integrates all that is important to us: a beautiful space, time and opportunities for women to ‘Rattle the Cage’ of themselves and their writing; the sharing of life stories; space to talk about experiences, stories, and writing craft; great food; and all at an affordable cost.

Your co-facilitators, author Jay Martin and psychologist Georgina Mavor have combined forces to offer a program that will accommodate women with a range of writing backgrounds and interests – from those wishing to explore their life experiences through personal writing, to those wishing to ‘work up’ personal writing they already have recorded in journals, to those who are well on their way to completing a longer work.

Jay and Georgina build in flexibility to tailor the experience for those attending. However, we anticipate the program will include:

  • Friday evening: Settling in time with a writing activity to connect with our writer selves, and a shared meal.
  • Saturday: A selection of personal and prose-writing sessions, mixed with plenty of time to pursue personal writing. Jay & Georgina will be on hand to talk through projects, offer thoughts and facilitate small writing circles. Saturday evening we will again share a meal, and there will be more opportunities to talk, get to know each other and perhaps share readings.
  • Sunday: Some short exercises before we pack up. We invite participants to join us for a shared meal in one of the Dwellingup cafes before we make our way back to our other lives.

Our location will be the beautiful bushland of the Jarrah Forest Lodge in Dwellingup, a marvellous location a little over an hour from Perth. If you would like to stay at the Lodge, accommodation can be booked online at: https://jarrahforestlodge.com.au/bookings/ We suggest booking a room as soon as you have purchased your ticket.

To retain group intimacy and deliver a tailored experience for everyone, we are limiting the number of participants to 10.

Breakfast and lunch will be self catered, including a shared dish to grace our dining table on Friday and Saturday nights. We will provide full information ahead of time.

If anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
