Playground of the Unexpected: Vivid Ideas

Playground of the Unexpected: Part of Vivid Sydney 2022
About this event
As we emerge from a distorted wonderland of expansion and contraction, we tread softly and dream big, playfully connecting you to us in a discovery of how we can celebrate creativity in the city of Sydney.
The Playground of the Unexpected features community storytelling in film, photography, art design, dance, music and drama through the eyes of emerging young creatives at Bradfield Senior College.
We’ll show what happens when we abandon control to something bigger, look for the collision of ideas, focus on the micro and macro - living large, small, slow and fast; what happens when we allow ourselves to be tumbled by the wave of new thinking, take a blank canvas and adjust the aperture. Where does the light fall and what do we choose to focus on?
Using curiosity, energy and optimism as drivers, we’ll explore the importance of play in creativity, and how play can allow for happy accidents and unexpected delights.
We’ll invite you to stop and play, for just a moment, and give you a glimpse at how our emerging creative talent is approaching our city and this new world by embracing the unexpected. Join us as we uncover Sydney: The Playground of the Unexpected.
12-7pm General admission to the exhibition, music and markets. Join a guided ticketed tour throughout the day leaving at 12.30, 2.30 and 5.30.
4.30-6.30pm: Creative Education Symposium: How can a playground of the unexpected provoke curiosity, energy and optimism? Join our panel including Mo Fox, creative strategist as we explore the importance of play, spontaneity and creativity in education.
The exhibition will include:
- Creative works including art, music, fashion, film and installation.
- Live performances: music, dance and drama
