Our inagural State Forest Hunt!
Open to all members of the NSW Sambar Hunters.
Setting up a base camp in Bago State Forest (TBC camp spot), you will be able to select from multiple SF's within a short drive from Bago to hunt. Maragle North and South, Mannus, Green Hills or stay local in Bago.
The Friday will consist of education sessions, with information provided by some of NSW best Sambar hunters, experienced local state forest hunters to ensure we give you the know how to find and harvest Sambar. We will hopefully have a visit from the local DPI office to provide compliance information and the most up to date intel as to where the Sambar are come mid May, they will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Armed with the previous days education, Saturday will consist of a buddy up with an experienced hunter and head out to your chosen SF in pursuit of the 'ghost of the forest' for the morning session. You will be shown what to look for on a map, how to use the weather to your advantage and what the sign looks like and how to read it. You can choose to continue your hunt solo for the afternoon session.
Sunday you get to put it all into practice. Hunt in pairs or solo, its your choice.
A cook up on both Friday lunch and dinner, and Saturday night will be provided by the NSW Sambar Hunters at a small cost. The food will be amazing!
We will be working with the ADA Riverina branch, who have members that have been hunting these forests well before the numbers exploded.
If you are serious about Sambar hunting, this is a trip you can't miss.
We have a heap of great prizes from some awesome companies and associations within the hunting community, along with a raffle for the weekend.
We will have a group chat open to answer any questions you will have, remember, no question os a silly question leading up to the event.
We will make sure we give you the best opportunity to witness sambar in their elements and hopefully harvest some of the best game meat available.
As always safety is paramount, even more so with a large group of hunters. Along with all the items required for hunting in a State Forest, you will be required to carry a handheld uhf whilst out in the field. We will have multiple first-aid kits, snake bite kits and plb's in camp and the organisers vehicles.
