Darebin City Council and the architectural design team, led by Warren and Mahoney, are proud to showcase the stunning new Northcote Aquatic and Recreation Centre for Melbourne Design Week.
NARC, as it is affectionally known as, was developed through an integrated design process that balanced deep engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander communities, immersive understanding of community needs and world leading standards of sustainability.
The result is a timeless, human-centred, architectural experience that features a stunning timber structure that exudes warmth and makes you feel welcomed from the moment you step into the facility.
NARC's world leadeing sustainability credentials include:
- Carbon neutral building in operation with 100% green power
- Rainwater harvesting for swimming pools/ landscaping and grey water toilets
- Electric heating, cooling and hot water systems using source heat pumps
- Timber structure (Forest Stewardship Council) to the swimming pool hall
- 6 Star Green Star rating by Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA)
