Join us for a 2-hour online workshop led by Susan Benedyka, focused on navigating conflict and constructive disagreement within values-based community settings. This is best suited to anyone involved in a group in a voluntary capacity – whether that be in a club, committee, Board, community group or an active member in your local town.
Our communities rely on the individuals within them; and whether it be a town, a group, a committee, or a club – individuals within these communities bring with them a deep passion and commitment for the cause, along with their own values, views and communication styles. Unlike the workplace, the structures and power dynamics in a voluntary space can be vastly different, and as a result - conflict can occur, with less support systems to reach a resolve. Conflict is a natural part of life, it isn’t always a negative thing; but if we don’t know how to engage with or resolve it productively, it can derail our efforts.
This workshop aims to support participants with a better understanding of conflict in a values-based setting, and equip them with a toolbox to navigate their way through or around it, such that they (and their group) can keep swimming toward the greater good.
In this session, you'll:
- Explore: The foundational role of personality, values, and passion in community dynamics, understanding how they shape both positive outcomes and conflict.
- Understand: That conflict and disagreement, when approached constructively, can be catalysts for growth and cohesion.
- Learn: Techniques for expressing opinions respectfully, de-escalating conflicts, and finding common ground in value-driven discussions.
- Acquire Tools: For facilitating productive conversations and decision-making processes in diverse community settings.
- Practice: Engage in breakout sessions to hone your skills in constructively disagreeing and resolving conflicts.
- Reflect: Upon the session to reinforce your learnings and insights.
