About this event

  • 1 hour

Isaiah is a former refugee from the Republic of Sierra Leone who arrived in Australia in November 2006 after fleeing due to civil war. Isaiah spent 14 years in many refugee camps in Guinea, West Africa. Today he is a qualified Social Worker and lives with his wife and five children in Melbourne.

“Close families were killed, carnage and anarchy was the order of the day in Sierra Leone. There was nowhere safe and everyone was fleeing for his or her life. In the process of escaping the war, I was left behind by my parents. I walked for three days and three nights to reach safety in neighboring Guinea where I met my parents.”

Presented by Merri-bek Libraries and Jesuit Social Services

Registration essential: refreshments at 6.45 pm for a 7 pm start.

Please contact Coburg Library a week prior to the event if you have any access requirements for you to fully participate. The Coburg Library meeting room has an inbuilt hearing loop and a personal radio frequency (RF) hearing assistance system is available upon request.
