About this Event

Agriculture operates and controls some of the largest connected landscapes making those responsible for its condition important natural capital stewards. Implementing Natural Capital accounting can ensure effective monitoring and measurement of these systems to ensure natural capital is economically visible and stewards are rewarded for its management. Despite the barriers there are clear evolving opportunities that offer farmers incentives around the management of natural capital. This seminar will discuss the emerging themes that have developed through the analysis of a number of Australian Case Studies where natural capital accounting is or is about to be undertaken. Stuart is joined by leading rural valuer who will provide some perspectives on the challenges faced in recognising Natural Capital Condition in valuations and how the Valuation industry is considering these challenges.

PRESENTERS

Stuart Martin, Food Agility PhD Scholar, Institute for Sustainable Futures, UTS Sydney

Stuart has over 20 years experience in investment management and research around Commercial Real Estate. Stuart’s PhD looks at the integration of Natural Capital Accounting into Agricultural Decision Making. He is using case studies and focus groups to highlight current impediments to the greater integration of natural capital into agricultural decision making through an accounting framework approach.

Tim Lane, National Client Manager (Commercial and Agribusiness), Herron Todd White, Queensland

Tim joined Herron Todd White in 2011 to head up the national rural division and is based in Brisbane. Tim joined ANZ in 1987 and has held roles as a Commercial Banking Manager, Credit Manager Private Bank and most recently Director of Private Bank QLD. Tim is the Director of the Rural division for Herron Todd White and his knowledge in the banking environment, supported by having family and personal interests in agriculture, provides a strong capacity to assist grow the rural focus of Herron Todd White nationally. Tim holds a Bachelor of Business with majors in Economics and Operations Management.
