Let’s reconnect with Duncan Cocking from Leaf, Root and Fruit and see how your crop rotation and succession planting plan is going. As we head out of winter and into spring/summer we can discuss what worked and what can be improved. We can also explore seasonal issues such as companion planting, pests and diseases. This session will help you finalize your crop rotation and succession planting plan which is essential for the success of your veggie garden.

In this session you will learn how to refine your succession planting and ripen that elusive Christmas tomato. Create your own action plan for your vegetable patch.

About Home Harvest:

Home Harvest is a monthly seminars series that covers all aspects of edible gardening, and include food, seed and plant swaps.

The series will guide you through successfully growing in our local soil and climatic conditions.

All sessions will be on the first Wednesday of the month at the Manningham Function Centre, 699 Doncaster Road Doncaster.

Wednesday 3 April, 7.00pm to 9.00pm (Food Swap 6.45pm)

Maria Ciavarella from My Green Garden will focus on preserving those beautiful tomatoes.

She will cover the art and science of bottling (jars of peeled tomatoes); pickling (green tomato pickle); making a sauce (ketchup style); dehydrating (dried tomatoes) and, as a demo which requires no electricity or will not make any smoke or steam. As a special treat Maria will show how traditional passata is made using her 'desktop' machine. There will be tastings opportunities with some lucky audience members going home with a hamper pack as a door prize.
