We are pleased to present a soul stirring Hindustani classical vocal recital by Smt Sawani Shende.
Born into a musically rich family, Smt Sawani Shende was fortunate to have her father and grandmother as her Gurus. Her grandmother Smt. Kusum Shende was a notable singer of the Kirana Gharana, and an honoured artist of the Sangeet Natak Era. A quest for more musical knowledge brought Sawani ji to learn under the expert guidance of Smt Veena Sahastrabuddhe, a noted classical vocalist from Gwalior Gharana.
Sawani ji mesmerizes audiences with her pure yet aesthetical renderings of raags. Her confidence and mastery of khayāls, her crystal clear diction, and overall sensitivity in presentation, bring a vibrant and beautiful energy to each of her preformances.
Accompanying Sawani ji will be Shri Pandurang Toravi (Tabla) and Shri Prasad Karve (Harmonium). Both are much sought after Melbourne-based artists who also featured in this year's Melbourne International Festival of Hindustani Classical Music.
About Pt Vishnu Digambar Paluskar - A towering musical personality of the late 19th and early 20th century, Pt Vishnu Digambar Paluskar brought out what was until then an artform reserved for royal courts and temples, into public places. He founded the Gandharva Mahavidhyalaya that continues to be an eminent teaching institution of Hindustani classical music. Pt Paluskar composed the tune of the popular bhajan, 'Raghupati Rāghav Rāja Rām'.
