Join Us at Peppina and Help Build Someone's Future on July 5, 2024!

Between July 1, 2020, and April 30, 2024, 4,379 women and children sought safe emergency accommodation and support from the Hobart Women’s Shelter. Unfortunately, 8 out of 10 were turned away due to capacity limits, leaving 3,450 women and children with nowhere to go.

Tasmania’s housing crisis is particularly damaging for women and children, who are staying longer at our Shelter due to the limited affordable housing options available. Many of these women and children will stay in, or return to, family violence situations, putting them at risk of further trauma, injury, and in some cases, death. The number one reason women do not leave violent situations is the fear of being homeless.

Our Mission: 25 Homes

In 2022, we embarked on a mission to build 25 new long-term homes for women and children to create additional affordable housing pathways and help alleviate the bottleneck in our services.

2 Homes Completed, 23 to Go!

In April 2022, we purchased a block of land in Herdsmans Cove, and in March 2024, we proudly unveiled our first two homes – ‘Isabel’ and ‘Elsie’. This milestone is the result of three years of dedication, hard work, and invaluable community support, turning an ambitious dream into reality. In 2023, we received generous donations of two land titles: one from the Kingborough Council and another from a private donor. We are now exploring how to progress these land opportunities to achieve our goal.

How You Can Help

While we have achieved much already, there is still a long way to go. Your support is crucial in creating beautiful, safe homes and housing pathways for women and children.

Join Us at Peppina on July 5, 2024!

Join us at the beautiful Peppina for an afternoon of networking and a delightful sit-down lunch prepared by Peppina's Massimo Mele and team with entertainment provided by The Foley Artists. Help us celebrate 50 years of service to the Tasmanian community and raise critical funds to build the remaining 23 long-term homes for women and children. All food and beverages are included, and a silent auction will also take place. Your support and purchase of an event ticket will directly contribute to this ambitious project.
