Get Mentally Fit, proudly supported by City of Gold Coast, are offering a series of mental resilience workshops to support the recovery of Gold Coast residents heavily impacted by the recent severe weather events. These workshops are funded by a City of Gold Coast community grant.

This workshop will take place on Wednesday May 15, 4pm - 5:30pm, at the Upper Coomera Centre (Hall 2).

Get Mentally Fit is delivering in-person workshops at 5 community centres (listed below).

  • Upper Coomera Centre - Weds May 15 - 4pm - 5.30pm
  • Pimpama Community Centre - Weds May 22 - 4pm - 5.30pm (also live streamed)
  • Pacific Pines Community Centre - Weds May 29 - 9.30am - 11am
  • Mudgeeraba Community Centre - Weds June 05 - 12pm - 1.30pm
  • Nerang Bicentennial Community Centre - Weds June 19 - 5.30pm - 7pm

All sessions will be facilitated by Emily Johnson (Principal Psychologist and Co-founder at Get Mentally Fit). She is an experienced trainer and expert in psychosocial hazard prevention and safety, and mental wellbeing risk intervention and recovery.

These workshops offer an opportunity to gain practical strategies, to better safeguard your ongoing emotional wellbeing - post disaster events.

As a participant, you will receive evidence-informed content and resources, in line with City of Gold Coast recovery strategy, that acutely respond to your immediate and ongoing mental wellbeing support needs.

Content of the workshop includes:

  1. An explanation of why and how severe weather events can impact individual and community psychosocial health and overall wellbeing.
  2. A collective discussion of lived experiences of the event, offering an opportunity to educate the community about the psychological effects of such events, and normalise the range of emotions individuals may have experienced/be experiencing.
  3. A proven wellbeing framework to support individual and collective mental wellbeing during and beyond the recovery process.
  4. Evidence-based strategies and resources, and support options, to assist participants to navigate the transition back to recovery and a healthy mind.

The aim of the workshop is to enable participants, their families, and the wider Gold Coast community, to gain a healthier perspective of their personal situation, and future proof them to more positively navigate life moving forward.
