Embark on an exciting journey into the world of game development with our 7-week Game Development Fundamentals course, focused on using Unity, one of the most popular game engines in the industry. This course is tailored for beginners who aspire to learn the basics of game design, coding, and interactive media. No prior experience in game development is necessary, as we start from the ground up, building a solid foundation for your future endeavours in this dynamic field.


We are proud to offer this program for FREE as part of a series of tech courses and esports opportunities in partnership with the NT Government Office of Youth Affairs


Week 1: Player Control - Driving Simulator

  • Introduce Unity and interacting with the UI
  • Introduction to scripting, simple programming and how VS interacts with Unity
  • Learn how to implement objects into a scene and basic player controls
  • Learn how to set up a camera in Unity

Week 2: Basic Gameplay - Feed the Animals

  • Setting parameters for players to move within
  • Detecting player input from key presses
  • Creating and instantiating prefabs
  • Destroying projectiles based on position within a scene

Week 3: Basic Gameplay - Cont.

  • Creating a spawn manager and introducing arrays
  • Randomly spawning prefabs within boundaries
  • Introducing user created methods
  • Spawning prefabs at set intervals
  • Destroying objects using trigger colliders and initiating game over

Week 4: Sound and Effects - Run and Jump

  • Introduce the sprite renderer
  • Using force to move players instead of their transform and preventing key spam
  • Repeating a background by resetting its position

Week 5: Sound and Effects - Cont.

  • Stopping the game when game over occurs
  • Animating player movement with set conditions
  • Customising and implementing particle and sound effects

Week 6:Gameplay Mechanics - Sumo Battle

  • Using focal points to control a camera
  • Introducing physics materials
  • Making enemies move towards players

Week 7: Gameplay Mechanics - Cont.

  • Using coroutines for limited time power-ups on players
  • Introducing for-loops with parameters
  • Spawning new objects and enemies from for-loops
