Down the Wikipedia Rabbit Hole with Panda Wong
inSITU: Workshop Series
The workshop ‘down the Wikipedia rabbit hole’ is an exploration of the internet site Wikipedia as landscape and our clicking, browsing, surfing as ‘desire lines’ of their own.
Since 2001, people have been using Wikipedia to learn everything from obscure movie facts to pig breeds. The Instagram Depths of Wikipedia is a testament to the vastness of specific, obscure information available on Wikipedia.
In this workshop, we will use found poetry, Wikipedia-inspired formatting and associative writing to examine our clickholes and where they can take us. We will also interrogate Wikipedia as a source of information and poetic material. Since inception, it has claimed a ‘neutral point-of-view’. We will question this through the erasure of cut-up poetry, poetically engaging in the long tradition of editing Wikipedia articles. The workshop will embrace the collective spirit of Wikipedia, working together to map out poems of obsession, exploration and curiosity.
