Kudos Offsite presents ‘Double Happiness’（囍), an exhibition showcasing a contemporary take on the female experience within familial and romantic relationships in Chinese culture. Through the lens of 7 women with artistic and design practices spanning printmaking, sculpture, jewellery and textiles; this collection explores queer and diasporic approaches to individuality within union and challenges traditional conventions of intimate relationships.
‘Double Happiness’（囍): a Chinese character comprised of two single happiness’ (喜) aligned side by side symbolises the joining of two individuals. It is commonly used in wedding paraphernalia as a blessing for a couple’s happily ever after. In ‘Double Happiness’（囍) 7 Chinese artists will mediate on fleeting binds, engrained traditions and reflect on ‘囍’ beyond its ties to happiness and marital blessings.
Join us for opening night to watch a performance by by Low Wen Pei (@_wenpeii.2) & Alex Peterson (@alexmusicdiary) starting at 7PM. Wen Pei will be performing four originals alongside their partner, multi-instrumentalist Alex Paterson. From a song about Wen Pei’s grandmother, to the first queer love she felt she lost, and the relief, determination and struggles she has moved through and continues to move through in the relationship with their partner, the set acts as a raw and deeply honest presentation of what desires for Double Happiness can look like.
