Duldig Studio is thrilled to be partnering with MAL – Melbourne Art Library – to deliver this facilitated Discussion Group exploring the broad topic of design – a concept difficult to define – but present in art, objects and systems.
The Book Club will initially be 3 sessions delivered in the evenings over zoom with the final, fourth Book Club meeting taking place in the Duldig Studio.
Two weeks before each session participants will be sent 3 articles based on a design focused topic. The Discussion Group will then be facilitated by the expert librarians at MAL encouraging participants to discuss the themes within the articles.
It will be a wonderful, inspiring and fun program that you can enjoy from home – encouraging you to reflect and discuss with others the impact of design.
Sessions
- Tuesday 30 April - In this first session, we shall discuss the distinctions between ‘design', ‘craft', and ‘art', the ways in which these frameworks have overlapped and worked together in the past. We’ll consider historical movements such as the Bauhaus and the Arts and Crafts movement, as well as contemporary practice. What can be gained from thinking of these terms separately and together?
- Tuesday 28 May : 7:30-9pm
- Tuesday 25 June: 7:30-9pm
- Last Session (on-site): Date tbc
Participants can book individual sessions but to create the best club experience we encourage you to book the series.
