About this event

Create original works of art with paper, scissors, and glue! Based in the heart of Brunswick, we warmly welcome you into Melbourne’s dedicated collage studio, That Paper Joint.

During our three hour workshop, you'll be guided through a variety of image-making processes and techniques, with casual guidance and friendly expertise along the way. We’re fully stocked with a fantastic array of second-hand books, magazines, and other paper treasures for you to explore and cut-and-paste with.

Collage is a fun and easy activity, regardless of your artistic skill, ability, or background. So come along, pull up a chair, relax with a drink in hand, and pair of scissors in the other, and get sticking!

Whether you’re attending solo, with a date, or mate, That Paper Joint is a creative studio unlike anything else you've experienced, and we can’t wait to help you get in touch with your inner artist.

We think it's one of the most original, rewarding, and fun things to do in Melbourne!

Knowledge required:

This class is perfect for all levels; from those who have never collaged (or been creative in a while) to those who have dabbled, & to those who are already obsessed!

We have experience hosting from 10+ years plus in this workshop and require a guardian to accompany any children or young people under the age of 16.

What you'll get:

An introduction to collage and the various styles and techniques to get you inspired and give you ideas before getting started.

A four-part process to guide you through your creative experience, from ‘mining’ for images, cutting, arranging, and finally image capturing (glueing/scanning). You’ll also have plenty of one-on-one time with Max, for idea generation, advice and collaboration.

A huge array of vintage books, contemporary magazines, and paper ephemera to cut from and access to our book wall for those extra special pieces! All tools are provided and you’re also welcome to bring along any extra bits and pieces from home that you’d like to use.

A spread of light refreshments and snacks from local stores and cafes to keep you going throughout the creative process, including:

  • Friday Evenings: Pick and nibble on a delicious Cheeseboard spread with equally delicious Vegan and Gluten-Free options from local cheese shop, Harper and Blohm, to go perfectly with your BYO beverages.
  • Saturday and Sundays: Relax and enjoy a nice cup of tea, filter coffee, or kombucha, whilst tucking into some tasty Ovens Street pastries, fresh fruit, and Vegan/Gluten-Free chocolate snacks.
