About this event

You are invited to a workshop outlining the results of an exciting and collaborative cultural burning project on travelling stock reserves (TSRs).

The NSW Local Land Services, Local Aboriginal Land Councils, the Australian National University (ANU) and ANU Enterprise have been working together on a joint project to support the re-emergence of cultural burning in box-gum grassy woodlands on TSRs across the Riverina and South East of NSW in winter and spring of 2023.

The pilot project supported local Aboriginal communities to implement a cultural burning program and generated positive social, cultural and ecological benefits. In conjunction, researchers at ANU undertook an ecological monitoring project, with the findings aimed to support cultural burning as an ongoing management tool.

In the South-East of NSW, the project partnered with Onerwal Local Aboriginal Land Council to lead the cultural burning program on Ngunnawal Country and provided fire training opportunities for community members. Seeding of forbs after burning was carried out to determine outcomes for biodiversity.

Please join us to discuss the results and outcomes of our important project with key project partners on a project site on Ngunnawal Country.

This Project is funded under the Disaster Risk Reduction Fund. The Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (DRRF) is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW governments.

We acknowledge this event is taking place on Ngunnawal Country, and pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.

ANU Enterprise works behind the scenes to maximise the impact of research findings of the Australian National University, on the world.

We enable researchers to generate and deliver consulting, contract research and executive education projects.

For example, we work with industry and government, by providing business development and project management support services for researchers.

Above all, our services enable researchers to focus on their area of expertise and the delivery of societal impact.
