About this event

The textiles industry has undergone significant acceleration through the mechanisation of previously handmade processes. However, this capacity for mass-production has also led to a 'fast fashion' business model that cares little for growing social and environmental impacts.

This panel focuses on interrogating the connections between textiles and care: through circular interventions, social inclusion and material preservation. Hear from not-for-profit organisations, research-led designers, and industry experts in Australia and the Netherlands who are leading the textiles field to care for people, the planet, and valuable material resources.

Guests will have the opportunity to engage with the panel in a concluding Q&A session.

  • Margot Chevalier, Research and Development, i-did, Netherlands
  • Marina Toeters, Fashion Tech Farm, Netherlands
  • Zoltan Csaki, Cofounder, Citizen Wolf, Australia
  • Kate Clugston, Partnerships and Development Manager, The Social Outfit, Australia
  • Omer Soker, CEO, Charitable Recycling Australia

Following the panel session, you are invited to join us for industry networking drinks and canapes and to view our textile exhibitions.

At UNSW Galleries: Join co-curator Catherine Woolley for an exhibition tour of 'Pliable Planes: Expanded Textiles & Fibre Practices' and view the work of 'Liz Williamson: Weaving Eucalypts Project'.

At AD Exhibition Space: 2021 Commercial Textiles Student Exhibition, and the Higher Degree Research Students Textiles 'Work-in-Progress'.

You are also invited to tour UNSW’s new industry-focused Textile Studio.

Presented in conjunction with the inaugural UNSW ADA Textiles Week (20-24 June), and in partnership with the Consulate-General of the Netherlands and UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture.
