About this event

  • 3 hours

Create a colourful, sculptural animal using hay wrapped with wool. The simplicity of hand building with hay requires no tools and great results can be achieved with just a sense of fun and imagination.

In this workshop you will be guided in:

  • Creating a base form with hay appropriate to your chosen animal
  • Dividing the hay into the main features
  • Techniques in wrapping with wool
  • Finishing the details of your animal

The method of making a ‘bush toy’ is an indigenous art form which is championed by the Tjanpi Weavers of the Central desert. I learnt this artform from Gunditjmara master weaver Bronwyn Razem, who has given me permission to teach and share the knowledge of making bush animals.

All materials will be provided

******** Please note: The hay can be dusty, so this activity is not suitable for those with existing respiratory conditions ***********
