About Retreats in Motion and pilgrimages.

A pilgrimage is a transformative experience that can lead to personal growth and spiritual development. Walking the Camino de Santiago, for example, is a journey that challenges you physically, mentally, and emotionally. It forces you to step out of your comfort zone and confront your fears and limitations. This can be a powerful catalyst for personal growth and self-discovery.

One of the benefits of pilgrimage is that it provides an opportunity for introspection and reflection. When you're walking for hours on end, you have plenty of time to think and contemplate. This can help you gain clarity on your life's purpose, values, and priorities. It can also help you process past experiences and emotions that may be holding you back.

Do you need to be religious?

Pilgrimages are a spiritual as well as physical experience. Regardless of your personal religious beliefs, they offer a chance to connect with something greater than yourself and tap into a sense of awe and wonder. The Camino de Santiago has been a pilgrimage route for Christians for centuries, but people of all faiths (and no faith) walk it today. It's a reminder that we're all on a journey, and we can find common ground in our shared humanity. When we walk on the Camino, we can explore the unique Christian heritage, learn more about faith, God, and the teachings of the Saints, or at the very least, experience the divine found in chance encounters and by walking through the glory of the natural world. Retreats In Motion humbly steps onto these walks in the spirit of curiosity and respect.

Community

Another benefit of pilgrimage is the sense of community and connection it can foster. When you're walking with other pilgrims, you're all in it together. You share the same challenges, triumphs, and moments of grace. This can create a sense of camaraderie and support that can be hard to find in everyday life. It can also help you develop empathy and compassion for others.

Return to Source

Finally, pilgrimage can be a way to break out of your routine and experience something new and different. It can be a chance to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature. It can also be an opportunity to learn about different cultures and ways of life. All of these experiences can broaden your perspective and help you grow as a person.

So should you walk alone?

Yes, if you are ready to do so.

If you're not ready to walk alone, walk with us.

The intention of these 'Walk With Me, Retreats In Motion', is to give you enough structure to feel supported with pre-booked accommodation so you can enjoy your walk rather than rush to the next albergue. Guided routes. Morning stretches and Qi Gong to stay limber and healthy, meditation and circle sharing in the evening to reflect on the journey, and gentle transformational breathwork ceremonies, to induce the Sacred into your experience.

And enough spaciousness; you can walk together or alone, as you feel you need, so you can experience the freedom of the trail, the connection with nature, and the serendipity of random encounters with fellow pilgrims. Guided meditation and rituals to support your journey.

We will walk together for the first 100km, five days, from Saint Jean Pied de Port, to Pamplona, giving you a fantastic start to your pilgrimage, and the confidence and community to keep going all the way to Santiago, should you wish.

Frequently asked questions

What age group is this for?

Everyone. I've walked the Camino with young adults and many pilgrims in their seventies.

What level of finess do I need?

You need to be able to carry your pack for up to 20km per day. I've walked with people of great standards of fitness to people with big health challenges. The healthier and fitter you are, the easier on the body it will be. But the most important thing is your commitment and determination.

I'm afraid we cannot give refunds once booked. This is because we have to book with partners to ensure you have accommodation and spaces are limited. Under some circumstances we can move your trip to another one of our events.

Is this a religious group activity?

We are a group who are interested in spiritual enquiry, personal growth, and understanding who we are a what we were put here to do. We welcome all traditions, faiths and respec people's personal paths. Whilst honouring the people of Spain and the Catholic Church and others who maintain the Camino.

Our Philosophy

When Peter walked the Camino in 2010, he did so knowing little to nothing about the pilgrimage. He had no phone, no camera, no guidebook or map, and very little money. The challenges of this approach should be obvious, but the rewards were huge, and not easily experienced without surrendering those things.

Retreats In Motion, aims to give you the space to have a experience that is both physical, emotional, spiritual supportive. We aim to create community by supporitng like minded invidivuals to have a life enhancing experience which they will carry with them into their the journey of their life.
