DISCUSSION POINTS

Asian economies are being challenged on many fronts. But the prolonged US-China trade war seems to be the overarching concern. While everything about the trade war seems negative, can it actually benefit some Asian economies? Specifically, can ASEAN and India benefit from the trade war? In the medium-term, some countries in this block do seem well-placed to attract production away from China. Vietnam, for example. But in the short-run, it is hard to find any winners. Growth slowdown is broad-based and policy space will play an important role in determining who can navigate the downturn better.
