COFFEE PRODUCTION IN THE PHILIPPINES
Coffee holds a significant place in the Philippines, serving as one of its key agricultural products and a major export item. It's not just important internationally; Filipinos love their coffee too.
The Philippines stands out as one of the select few countries producing all four major types of coffee: Arabica, Liberica (commonly known as Barako), Excelsa, and Robusta. Robusta dominates production, making up 90% of the country's coffee output.
In 2014, the Philippines churned out 25,000 metric tons of coffee, landing it at 110th place worldwide in terms of production. Despite this ranking, local demand is robust, with Filipinos guzzling down a whopping 100,000 metric tons of coffee annually.
