Would you know what to do if you saw an injured animal on the side of the road? Join us for our Basic Wildlife Rescue workshop where you will learn from a wildlife carer how to help a range of sick or injured native animals, create an 'essentials kit' to keep in your car in case of an animal emergency and meet some native animals from Critters Up Close.

Type of event and expectations

Adult workshop space-

Guests are requested to turn phones to silent, remain seated (where possible) during the event, be respectful to facilitator and other attendees alike, and exit discreetly as needed. Attedees aged 12-17 do not need to be accompanied by an adult (though parents are welcome if they book a ticket), however parents of minors must provide contact information and be available to collect their children upon request.

This event involves interaction with animals. Please ensure you follow the facilitator instructions and respect the animals at all times during the workshop. The safety and wellbeing of staff, participants and animals is incredibly important. By participating in this workshop, you agree to follow all safety instructions provided to you by the staff and facilitators and understand the facilitator may ask you to leave if your actions are putting anyone’s safety or wellbeing is at risk.

This is a sitting event, and will be held inside.

Accessible parking is available at front of Centre, rooms are located on multiple levels via a ramp and toilets are available within the venue. For specific access requirements please feel free to call or email the centre at (08)9364 0191 or piney.lakes@melville.wa.gov.au

Directions to Centre

Please consider using public transportation. A bus stop, just a 2-minute walk away, is conveniently located near the Centre and services multiple routes.

The Centre is located at 555 Leach Highway, Winthrop in the Piney Lakes reserve. To reach us, if heading westbound, take the first left after Murdoch Drive on Leach Highway. If coming from the Fremantle area, continue on Leach Hwy across Murdoch Drive and use the designated U-turn just after the lights to move to the westbound lanes. Go back through the lights at Murdoch Drive and take the first left. Please park in the signed public carpark.

City of Melville's Directions from Young People Youth Strategy identified that our local young people feel concern over environmental issues but are unsure how to take action. They also felt that not many events were offered to their age group.
