Join Dennis Altman, Angela Savage and Christos Tsiolkas to explore the ongoing fascination with the works of a writer whose racism and elitism seem increasingly out of place in the modern world.

About Angela Savage, PhD:

Angela Savage is an award-winning writer and CEO of Public Libraries Victoria. Her first novel, Behind the Night Bazaar, won the 2004 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for an unpublished manuscript. She is a winner of the Scarlett Stiletto Award and has twice been shortlisted for Ned Kelly awards. Her latest novel, Mother of Pearl, is published by Transit Lounge.


About Dennis Altman:

Dennis Altman is the son of Jewish refugees, who first came to attention with the publication of his book Homosexual: Oppression & Liberation in 1972. His most recent books are God Save the Queen: the strange persistence of monarchies and Death in the Sauna

Altman is Vice Chancellor’s Fellow at LaTrobe University in Melbourne. He was President of the AIDS Society of Asia and the Pacific (2001-5 and was listed by The Bulletin as one of the 100 most influential Australians ever. He is Patron of the Australian Queer Archives and the Pride Foundation.


About Christos Tsiolkas:

Christos Tsiolkas is the author of eleven novels including Loaded, which was made into the feature film Head-On, The Jesus Man and Dead Europe, which won the 2006 Age Fiction Prize and the 2006 Melbourne Best Writing Award, shortlisted for the 2009 Miles Franklin Literary Award, long listed for the 2010 Man Booker Prize and won the Australian Literary Society Gold Medal for The Slap. He is also a playwright, essayist and screen writer. He lives in Melbourne.
