About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Are you fascinated by auroras?  Have you ever seen one?  Why can they be different colours?  Did you know that you can occasionally photograph or see them in Australia?  What about auroras in the past? Do other planets have auroras?  How are auroras formed?  The sun is nearing a sunspot peak in the current 11-year solar cycle; why is that important for auroras?  Join Sandy Hayward for a visual journey of discovery with historical and current pictures and videos of auroras.

About the presenter:

Sandy Hayward is a geologist and historian and has always been fascinated by auroras. She was an honorary digital research fellow with the Royal Geographic Society in London in 2021, using their archive to search for written, drawn and photographed observations of historical aurora events.
