About the Workshop

Join expert Professor John Swinson as he covers the importance of copyright and contracts for creatives and practical tips to protect yourself legally.

About the Facilitator

John is a professor at The University of Queensland in the Law School.

John is course coordinator for Privacy Law, Internet and AI Law, and Business in a Borderless World. He also teaches cybersecurity law and copyright law.

John Swinson has 30 years of law firm experience in US and Australia, with principle focus on technology law and intellectual property law. Currently, he is principal of boutique law firm Pie Legal.

Since 2000, John has been an arbitrator for the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO, which is a United Nations organisation based in Geneva) under the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) and au Dispute Resolution Policy (auDRP).

John has decided over 690 domain name disputes and has represented artists and filmmakers in copyright litigations and dealings.

  • The workshop will be held at the HOTA Basement is located at HOTA Central next to the cafe.
  • We ask that you please arrive at 5.45pm (15 minutes) prior to start time of 6pm.
  • Don't forget to bring a notepad and pen or laptop/tablet.
  • Bring a jumper as the room can get chilly!
  • Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.
