About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

We all keep stuff from our past – stashed in a shed, a drawer, a box. Do these things matter? Tony Armstrong thinks they do. They hold our memories and help us understand who we are and where we’ve been.

Join Tony as we open his exhibition based on the ABC series Tony Armstrong's Extra-Ordinary Things. Hear his take on discovering ordinary things with extraordinary stories across Australia as he’s joined by journalist Dan Bourchier, National Museum curator Dr Martha Sear, and some of the individuals who shared their remarkable stories.

This exhibition is a collaboration between the National Museum of Australia and Fremantle Australia. It is based on the ABC TV series supported by Screen Australia.

Where our stories come alive

The National Museum of Australia brings to life the rich and diverse stories of Australia through compelling objects, ideas and events. Our exhibitions, collections, programs and research focus on three interrelated themes; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture, Australia’s history and society since 1788, and the interaction of people with the environment. These define our conceptual framework through the themes of; land, nation, and people.
