About this event

  • 2 hours

Calling all ocean lovers - join the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS), Sea Shepherd and Boomerang Alliance to clean up Coogee Beach and call for a National Plastic Reduction Target!

On Friday 14 June from 8:30am, join us at Coogee Beach for a beach clean. This is an opportunity to show Federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek why strong action is needed.

We'll also be handing over our petition calling for a National Plastic Reduction Target - a demand for Australian Government commitment to targets for reducing plastic packaging.

Rubbish collected at Coogee Beach will be sorted, counted and added to Sea Shepherd Australia's Marine Debris Database.

What to bring:

  • Gloves
  • Tongs to help pick up rubbish
  • Closed-in shoes to be safe
  • Remember your SunSmarts
  • Reusable water bottle (no single-use plastic, please)

What is provided:

  • Bags to collect plastic pollution and rubbish in
  • National Plastic Reduction Target petition for signing
  • Plastic-free resources and information
  • Krill-iant vibes!

Meeting point:

Coogee Beach, near carpark to the north (-33.918573, 151.259113)

We need to not only remove existing plastic pollution, but eliminate it at the source.

Sign the petition for a National Plastic Reduction Target.

Despite bans on single-use plastics and recycling investment, only 20% of Australia’s plastic packaging is being recycled, because product manufacturers are increasing their use of virgin plastics and plastic packaging.

Let's keep our oceans clean and ensure they stay that way for future generations.

Sign the petition.
