Alternative '80s started its journey on the 15th September 2018, at Bar 420 in Lonsdale Street, Melb. Opening night DJs were Mat Doll, Anthony Horan, Barney Rubble and Deano. Inspired by Mark Demajo, Lyle and Rachael Blakemore the concept in mind was to create a party night that featured music from the '80s decade that originated in the UK by artists such as Visage / David Bowie / Spandau Ballet / Ultravox / Duran Duran / The Human League / New Order / Depeche Mode / Soft Cell / Cabaret Voltaire / The Cure / Siouxsie and the Banshees / Adam Ant and many others. It was named The New Romantic Movement.
The monthly event found a niche market in Melbourne and has continued on and only ceased to operate during the Covid years. In August last year the music format was expanded to include the '90s decade branded as Indie / Alternative Rock / Industrial/ Grunge and more.
