Adaptive Leadership Training

Course Introduction

To start, we will have an initial chat to get to know each other. Then, we will provide an introduction (or ‘briefing’) about the workshop, including talking about what it involves. Participants will then take a turn to speak themselves, where they can share their aims for the session.

Topics covered in this course

Understanding how solutions can turn into problems

By the end of the exercise, each development challenge will be much clearer to participants, and they will better understand the consequences of approaching those problems with a narrow view in mind. Those consequences almost invariably involve unintended consequences that can be harder to address than the original development issue itself. By the end of the process, everyone should be convinced that making sense of complexity is essential before trying to develop a solution to any development issue.

Differentiating adaptive problems

In this course, students will gain knowledge of: • Chances versus adaptive challenges • Creating effective change.

Leadership Practices

The section affords individuals the opportunity to view leadership a display of qualities or behaviours that people demonstrate or display.

Building leadership skills

Adaptive Leadership is rightly both an art and a science. In this session we will teach you practical skills for applying Adaptive Leadership. In workshops and experiential activities you will learn how to identify your own strengths as an Adaptive Leader.

Scenarios and Case Studies

Here’s where participants begin to turn their raw power into skills, and also get a taste of how those skills will work in Adaptive Leadership through group exercises.

They will also develop meta-skills that are applicable to other problems, and experience how principles learned from the case can be applied to a different case.

Summary of the Workshop

At the end of the day, participants will have a chance to raise some relevant questions, and to design an action plan for success.
