Acclaimed Newcastle artist, and master draftsperson, Peter Lankas will create an original digital drawing of your dog. You may have seen Peter's incredible human portraits on display at MIMA: now watch him create a digital portrait of your favourite hound. Only a very limited number of tickets available for this activity, so please book early and bring your dog.

About the Artist - Peter Lankas


Peter is an award-winning artist, as well as an art educator and creative mentor of 35 years. Primarily a painter with a strong focus on drawing, he has worked in Newcastle since his arrival in 2000, documenting the beauty of the mundane and the ordinary, with focus on the suburban milieu via ‘en plein air’ and studio works which deal with personal and social narratives. He has held 25 solo and major exhibitions in the Newcastle region and Sydney, as well as countless group shows.

He is a passionate fine art teacher with a Fine Art Master’s degree in painting, working in the community, Newcastle Art School (TAFE), and Hudson Street Hum. Formerly he taught at University of Newcastle and TAFE FNQ as well as the Ron Hartree Art School.

His creative focus is on exploration of drawing and the alchemy of painting. He makes his own oil paints, organic mediums and varnishes based on the early Old Masters processes of solvent free oil painting. Digital drawing via the iPad has become integral to his painting and drawing process.

He is currently represented by Straitjacket in Newcastle. His work has been exhibited in Regional Art galleries and is held in private and government collections in Australia and overseas and has been a finalist in many major Australian art prizes.
