In partnership with the City of Melbourne, we are engaging Peter Mac patients, caregivers, and families affected by cancer or chronic illness to raise awareness about elder abuse through artistic expression and conversations centred around the concept of a 'warm safe home.'
The Warm Safe Homes initiative combines art, dialogue, and collaboration to advocate for the fundamental right of every individual, regardless of age, to live in a secure and comfortable environment. By utilising art and conversation, we aim to explore personal interpretations of what constitutes a warm safe home.
The workshop will run for two hours, facilitated by Peter Mac Art Therapy Student Laila Hugrass and Donna Swan, City of Melbourne Health Promotion Officer (Acting).
There will be a range of art materials provided so that people can collaborate and decorate their Warm Safe Home. Participants will be asked to write messages on their home in response to questions such as “What does a warm safe home mean to you?”, “Can you describe a home that made you feel safe and cared for?”
The facilitator and art therapist will support participants to explore these questions and foster conversations about aspects of their house and what they feel makes a home warm and safe.
