1950’s Vintage Journal Workshop

Journey back to the stylish 1950's!

The 1950’s were a magical time to be alive! As wartime rations were lifted, 1950’s women embraced the modern age of economic expansion, enjoying the new fashions and social occasions available to them. Visits to the Haberdashery section of a department store for the latest patterns of full skirted dresses and tailored twin sets as seen in the Ladies Home Journal was a highlight for 1950’s women. As too was choosing from the bright array of fabrics, buttons and threads to ensure that their hand sewn outfits would be the height of couture.

In this Journal Making Class, we will recreate the magic of this era, by making our own 1950’s Hard Cover Vintage Journal suitable to use for favourite recipes, a scrap book, junk journal and creative projects.

In this hands-on workshop we will:

• Learn the art of aging paper to add depth and character
• Case Bind a Hard Cover A5 Journal with distressed pages- including making hard covers, stitching signatures (pages together) & applying end papers
• Create a 1950's cover design using vintage materials and embellishments
• Make an elastic Belly Band for your Journal
• Enjoy Afternoon Tea

By the end of this class, you will have crafted a beautiful Hard Cover 1950's Journal suitable for storing an array of creative ideas and projects within its pages.
