1950's Fashion Cards

The 1950’s were a magical time to be alive! As wartime rations were lifted, 1950’s women embraced the modern age of economic expansion, enjoying the new fashions and social occasions available to them. Visits to the Haberdashery section of a department store for the latest patterns of full skirted dresses and tailored twin sets as seen in the Ladies Home Journal was a highlight for 1950’s women. As too was choosing from the bright array of fabrics, buttons and threads to ensure that their hand sewn outfits would be the height of couture.

Drawing inspiration from the era, we will use a variety of materials to create unique card designs that capture the spirit of the times. We will start with pre-dyed card stock that has a distressed and watermarked look, dyed in a pastel palette to give you an authentic base to add some 50s glamour. Utilising various materials such as vintage ephemera, stamps, stencils, lace, ribbons, buttons, sewing patterns, and decorative elements, we will guide you in crafting unique card designs that embody the essence of 1950s sophistication paying homage to an era steeped in glamour.

In this hands-on workshop we will:

• Learn the art of aging paper to add depth and character
• Design cards using vintage elements
• Apply embellishments like stitching, stamping, buttons & ribbbons to cards
• Make a Wax Seal
• Learn more about what life was like in this era
• Enjoy Afternoon Tea

You will take home a set of Vintage 1950's styled greeting cards, enjoy listening to music from the era as you craft and enjoy a lovely Afternoon Tea. Drift away back in time for the afternoon in lovely Docklands.
