Women's Art Register

A dynamic visual arts resource and archive of slides, information folders, books, videos and catalogues representing over 5000 Australian women artists.

The Women's Art Register was established by artists in 1975 to record and promote the work of Australian based women artists. The Register now holds a collection of national significance with images dating back to 1840.
Our documentation of the cultural heritage of Australian women artists and women's art practices is being used world wide by public organisations, universities, teachers, students, curators, artists and the general public.

The Register is run by a group of volunteers who complete all tasks from maintaining the archives,
to creating catalogues, fliers and the Bulletin, plus organising special events like occasional exhibitions and artist talks.

In 2015, the Women’s Art Register celebrated 40 years with a curated mini-festival of women’s artmaking -AS IF: 40 years and beyond (11th August-7th No
vember 2015) showcasing a dazzling array of women’s artistic contributions to the cultural landscape. AS IF was awarded Best Visual Arts category at the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

The Womens Art Register is proudly supported by the City of Yarra.
