Thoughtful (formerly SAPERE)
We exist to help people improve their learning and lives through philosophical enquiry. Our aim is to give people the skills to thrive in school and society.
Our vision is a future where everyone has the opportunity to engage philosophically in discussions and public discourse that matters to them, that motivates them to listen and to learn from others, and makes a difference to how they think, feel, speak, and act in the world. We strive to realise these benefits of philosophical enquiry as widely and equitably as possible, and we believe that this is both a personal and public good.
We think too few people have the opportunity to think for themselves and with others (especially the young and most disadvantaged in society) to the detriment of everyone's learning and life chances because it exacerbates educational and social inequality.
Our aim is to give everyone the opportunity to develop, through philosophy, their ability to think well for themselves and with others, improving their learning, their lives in school and society, helping to create a more equitable world.
Our focus is on helping young people and disadvantaged individuals in schools and other learning environments by developing the skills of the educational professionals who support them.
Our educational approach develops critical, creative, caring and collaborative thinking within communities. We also strive to embody the values of criticality, creativity, collaboration and care as a charity.
